Beryl Maria Marshall
This is my grandmother.
TATA is dedicated to her and the matriarchs Over the Hill.
I lost my Grandmother during the Pandemic. I’ve never felt that level of grief in my life before. In that palpable sorrow, I began channeling it into a piece of work that came from so deep inside of me I knew I needed to release it.
The Ancestor Training Academy is a story that seeks to share traditions that Caribbean Islanders have around the concept of death, and the pressure we often place on our ancestors once they have passed on. It merges the experiences and cultures of the silent generation and those of Generations Y & Z.
I am currently enrolled in the Kingston School of Art at Kingston University’s Creative Writing MA where I am actively working to bring this work to life.
